Sugar is a natural sweetener that is obtained by pressing the juice of sugarcane. Later on, to get the sugar cubes, the juice is boiled thoroughly. The process of sugar manufacturing began in India around 500 BC. As per studies, sugar cultivation is believed to have originated in New Guinea and spread from Southeast Asia to India. Brazil and India are deemed to be the largest producer and producer-consumer of sugar. According to statistics, India produces 348,187,900 tonnes of sugar, which accounts for 12% of the world’s sugar production. It is normally consumed in households and being relatively neutral in flavour, it is used as an ingredient in various edible processed foods and beverages.
